Color Atlas of Basic Histopathology
Published in Paperback by Appleton & Lange (a Pearson Education company) (21 January, 1997)
Authors: Clara Milkowski and Irwin Berman
Average review score:

plenty images, too clearly text
Milikowski et Berman's Atlas has a lot of full-coloured images(over 1000 images!), taken at microscopic level. Although every image has text for explanation, it is so simply written(20-30 words) that it is not easy for me, a beginner at histo-pathology, to understand well.

Great quick reference for the pics!
As a Pathology resident, I love this book. When I'm reading in Robbins and a picture isn't given for an entity, or I want to see more, and bigger, examples of something, I just flip this book open. It isn't meant to be a stand alone text, but the pics are awesome and are a great supplement to any text.

Quick, easy reference for day hikes. I have bought this book as a gift for many people.

Doubling and Incest/Repetition and Revenge: A Speculative Reading of Faulkner
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (February, 1981)
Author: John T. Irwin
Average review score:

repetition and revenge:a speculative reading of faulkne

Deepest Faulkner
Irwin's book was recommended by a professor years ago, when I was reading Light in August. I bought it then but I found I needed to read Absalom! Absalom! and The Sound and the Fury closely before I could get anywhere with this book. Though Freud is pivotal in Irwin's review, his use of Freud is flexible, not dogmatic. Jungian snippets (the shadow nature of the unconscious)emerge from time to time as well. The book is essentially an investigation into Quentin Compson's struggles with incest and impotence that leads to his suicide, yet it also applies to the South's loss of the Civil War and general outrages resulting from human frustration.
Irwin's connections between S&F and Absalom are most helpful to my understanding of Faulkner's larger vision of generation and life. Irwin is a true scholar of Faulkner, well read in Freud, tragedy, and of course William Faulkner. I have not seen a better portrayal of the problem of revenge against time and Oedipal fury in any other book. Elements of Nietzsche are coupled with Freud-- Irwin is well aware of the connections between these two-- and the connections between fate and the psyche's imprisonment in endless repetitive frustrations are very well developed. I hate to use the cliche "a must read", so I'll say that Faulkner readers who need a little something extra -- not pedantic, nor too academic, but informative-- will want to read this one.

Encyclopedia of Folk, Country and Western Music
Published in Paperback by St. Martin's Press (December, 1984)
Authors: Irwin Stambler and Grelun Landon
Average review score:

A fine reference book
This sizable book (900+ pages) is not the most up to date production in town (no biography of Garth Brooks here), but if you want a book that gives the history of many famous & not so famous country musicians, then I recommend this.

I can't open it to read about one artists without spending an hour in the book as I get absorbed reading about someone I've never heard of or forgot about.

The biographies are complete. Maybe the discographies are a little bit sketchy & in some cases incomplete or even incorrect, but it is my experience of such reference works that they all miss something out or get something wrong.

I'd certainly recommend this for someone who does want a little (a lot!) more than just what is on country radio at present.

Old-fashioned, but good guide to hick music
A massive book which has in many ways been superceded by other, later works. It's a bit bulky, with a layout which is a bit flat. Still, it includes entries on some artists which other guides may omit; the discographies are a bit suspect, though, particularly when it comes to little things like getting the titles right. You could opt for the newer, sexier country guides, but this one still has something to offer, particularly the longer, more narrative biographical entries.

Islamic Art in Context: Art, Architecture, and the Literary World
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Press (September, 1997)
Author: Robert Irwin
Average review score:

A Chronological Aproach
This book has great plates and is a great picture book. It also approaches the subject of Islamic art in a way unique compared to most introductory western art books. Rather then go chronologically, it breaks the subject up by themes. This works great for this material. This book is very readable, but sometimes a little simplistic. It's a great introduction to the subject.

A Non-Chronological Aproach
This book has great plates and is a great picture book. It also approaches the subject of Islamic art in a way unique compared to most introductory western art books. Rather then go chronologically, it breaks the subject up by themes. This works great for this material. This book is very readable, but sometimes a little simplistic. It's a great introduction to the subject.

Living Language Diccionario de Español
Published in Paperback by Living Language (June, 1998)
Authors: Ana Suffredini, Living Language, Crown Publishing, and Irwin Stern
Average review score:

Good Examples of Usage, bad reference
What I liked:
There are complete sentences showing usage of selected verbs, nouns. Also, important basic vocabulary is capitalized. Also, the font is slightly bigger than in University of Chicago dictionary, but still too small for me to read comfortably.

Dislikes: First, verbs have no conjugation information. Second, most Spanish words are inadequately defined. (One word English equivalents are used for most Spanish words.)
This is okay as a backup only not as a primary reference. english to spanish section is very skimpy + smaller than Span/Eng.

Excellent book for home and travellers
Good coverage, excellent format and most important of all, value for the price. But I would like to pay more for it if it comes with larger prints.

Management of a Sales Force (McGraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Marketing)

New Products Management (Irwin Series in Marketing)
Published in Hardcover by Richard d Irwin (July, 1996)
Authors: C. Merle Crawford and Merle C. Crawford
Average review score:

A Good Overview of The New Products Process
The book is organized into five parts:

Part I - Overview and Opportunity Identification/Selection; includes an introductory section and The New Products Process, and Opportunity Identification and Selection.

Part II - Concept Generation; includes sections on Preparation and Alternatives, Problem-Based Ideation, Analytical Attribute Approaches.

Part III - Concept/Project Evaluation; includes sections on The Concept Evaluation System, Concept Testing, Full Screen, Sales Forecasting and Financial Analysis and Product Protocol.

Part IV - Development; includes sections on Design, Development Team Management, Special Issues in Development and Product Use Testing.

Part V - Launch; includes sections on Strategic Launch Planning, Implementation of the Strategic Plan, Market Testing, Launch Management and Public Policy Issues.

The book is a thorough overview of the product planning process, and a very useful validation for someone who had already been involved in product planning. The book could have been enriched considerably by the use of more case studies and examples. The Applications section at the end of each chapter was meant to be a method of reflecting upon and putting into practice some of the ideas learned in the chapter; but the questions were oddly written and there was no "answer key" or discussion of those questions, so I didn't find that section useful at all.

A Reference Text to Keep By Your Side
Having taken the U of Mich course centered around the material in this text, I can tell you that you'll find at least a third of the material directly applicable to NPD processes at work. A great primer for anyone new to NPD.

Personal Finance (Irwin/McGraw-Hill Series in Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate)
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (August, 1998)
Authors: Jack R. Kapoor, Les R. Dlabay, and Robert J. Hughes
Average review score:

Great reference in Personal Finance
To make the long story short, when I started to work as a CSR in a bank, I kept this book as a reference on my desk. Before that I tried to ask the branch manager - he didn't have a clue. In the end, I put it in bank's "Better Practices Manual" binder and used it it explain products to the customers.

Very interesting
I used this book for an online course that I took from BYU. It was very informative and interesting.

Retailing Management (Irwin/McGraw-Hill Series in Marketing)
Published in Hardcover by Richard d Irwin (January, 1998)
Authors: Michael Levy, Barton A. Weitz, Michael Levy, and Barton A. Weitz
Average review score:

Basic introduction with a few bright spots
This book serves as a basic introduction to retail, though it often feels like "baby talk". It basically describes, without much analysis, the types of policies retailers adopt in several areas including merchandising, inventory management, ordering, HR, finance, store layout, etc. Good as a reference to what others are doing, but not at the cutting edge of retail.

A realistic review of Retailing....
RMgmt is a great book with valuable case studies from people with REAL experience.

From concept to info systems, the book helps the reader really understand the critical areas of a retail business and the virtal measures
